Nicky Hilton and Chanel Modern Chain E/W Tote

Ah the Hilton sisters! I am sure I can write a whole week's worth of post about Paris and all the controversial topics surrounding her but Nicky on the other hand is the more subdued sister who rarely involves herself in anything that will stir up tabloids.  Plus I think I prefer Nicky's sophisticated style compared to Paris's eccentric choices.

Nicky also has the better choice in handbags imo.  I have swooned over many of her lovely Chanels that she has carried in the past few years.  And her Modern Chain E/W tote that she used a lot in 2006-2007 is no exception.

The Modern Chain ligne was quite the popular ligne when it was first released - it was featured in the NM catalog, created a stir at the trunk shows, and most styles were an immediate sell-out once it hit shelves!  This MC tote reminds me a lot of the popular tote that the Olsen twins made famous but with an edgy chunky chain.  I love the bag because it is made of super durable calfskin and it is lined in leather (!!!!), it's so rare to find Chanel totes lined in leather nowadays!

After almost 6 years, I have decided to part with this pretty snow white baby.  It is a very chic bag (I am in love with the chunky handles!) and I hope it will go to a new mommy that will take her out more than I did.

Celebrities with Chanel Medium/Large (M/L) Classic Flap - Formal Edition

(Before I share my entry, I would like to say that I am incredibly saddened by the passing of Steve Jobs and have been reflecting upon it ever since I learned of it at around 5pm today. It may be because his passing hits close to home or because we just lost the Einstein of my generation or it could be.... Well I could go on and on but I truly admire Jobs because he loved what he did, did it well, and did it down to the very last moments of his life (he resigned barely 1.5 mths before passing away.) Jobs had an inkling for innovative, user-friendly products and he is going to be missed; Apple won't be the same. RIP Steve Jobs.)

Celebrities with Chanel Medium/Large (M/L) Classic Flap - Casual Edition

I love the versatility of a Chanel Medium/Large (m/l) Classic Flap and how it transitions from day to night with little to no effort. And an added plus is that it is the original size flap that Coco Chanel herself carried, exciting!

As mentioned before in a few of the m/l classic flap entries I've composed, a m/l classic flap can be worn as  a messenger bag (if one is petite enough) with a single chain, a shoulder bag with the double chains), or as a clutch with the chains strewn across the wrist. Depending on how one uses it (and possibly the material), it works as a casual bag or an evening/formal bag.

I love seeing how celebrities use their classic flap and would love to share some of the pictures I've found on JustJared (thank you JJ for being my main pictorial source of celebrities and chanel bag!).  This entry will consist of the casual ways celebrities have used their m/l and my next entry will be the formal edition.

Amanda Seyfried

These pictures are from my previous entry (see more pics here).  Amanda gives a great example of how you can change the look of a m/l flap just by adjusting the strap from double to single.

I can't tell if this is the same pink m/l flap as from this entry because this one looks a bit out of shape compared to the other one. (Upon closer inspection, this one looks patent.) She sure loves her pinks paired with white :D

Additional info in this entry. Hilary uses her m/l flap as a clutch to accessorize her hip night-out outfit. If she didn't have on the bangles, the chain from the flap could double as [temporary] bling for her wrist.

Celebrities and a Twist on the Chanel Classic Flap

A classic flap is a must in every wardrobe but with classic comes something that you can spot quite frequently on the streets, especially in a color like black. So what do you do if you want a classic flap but also want something that's different? Easy! Find the flap in something that's different such as a unique pattern, a material other than leather, or a seasonal color.

Amanda's flap looks to be a beautiful tweed flap with contrast stitching. Love her dog as well!

Both Amanda and Hilary has their unique flap in the medium/large size but Naomi's bag is a little bigger so it is possibly the jumbo. When using the bag as a statement purse, I prefer edgy flaps in the jumbo size because there is more to see. You want the purse to really stand out and the jumbo does just that (don't get me wrong, the medium is great too!)

If you're interested in a fun classic flap, I am letting go of my NWT (is this a sign I need to stop buying stuff for my imaginary lifestyle?!) Chanel 08P Red/White Tweed Checkered Classic Jumbo Flap. This is such a fun bag because it has the subtle diamond quilting but what pops out is the small pattern of the red/white tweed. In addition it has the very comfortable bijoux chain (and hardware) in a pale gold hardware which could pass for silver in some lighting. Love this bag, wish I had an occasion (actually a few) to wear it.

Kirsten Dunst in 'Bachlorette' w/ Chanel Classic Flap

Spotted! A black Chanel classic flap worn single-strapped on the shoulders of Ms. Kirsten Dunst while she's filming a scene for the movie Bachlorette.

The lustre from the flap makes me believe that it is lambskin and not caviar leather. Though I assume with all the movie set lights, the shiny caviar that Chanel use to use could also have a nice shine to it. Guess I will have to see the movie and see how it is in more closer shots (if there is any). One thing for sure though, it has gold hardware.

Jennifer Garner and Chanel Grey Reissue Flap

I love how celebrities debunk the theory that Chanel bags are dressy, "old-lady"-like, and can't be worn casually. A prime example of this is Jennifer Garner looking quite youthful while shopping in jeans and a plaid button-up with her grey reissue flap.

Grey paired with purple has always been one of my favorite color combinations and Garner's outfit is one I would definitely wear (minus the sneakers, I would probably don flats with this outfit).  It is simple, comfortable, and has just the right pop of color. Based on Garner's physique, I am going to assume she is using the 226 reissue size in the above pictures. The 226 is a little bigger than a medium classic flap and smaller than the jumbo flap but it is perfect size to transition from day to night. I usually like the flaps worn single-strapped for casual-wear but Garner pulls off the double-strap with this outfit real well. Hey, I wonder what she got at Williams Sonoma?

I think I've made up my mind that I want to should sell my 08A Chanel grey matte distressed calfskin reissue 226 flap so here she is again for your consideration.

NWT Chanel 11P Red Caviar Medium Classic Flap

I have lost my mind.  After an excruciating hunt for the perfect lipstick red caviar flap, I am considering selling her.  Yup, totally lost my mind.

I will spare the overdramatic story about how I acquired this (after it was sold out for months!) but it involves [almost] harassment, lots of driving, and almost breaking down. The good news is that when asked whether I was crazy, my sweet SA said "no, we see this all the time, we don't even bat an eye." Glad there's others out there who will go depths to get what they want.

As mentioned, I am considering selling her. My lifestyle doesn't justify the use of such a beautiful bag (would hate to keep it trapped inside a cabinet all day while I'm slaving away in lab) in my collection so hopefully it will go to someone who will take her out and let her get the attention she deserves. A bright, true, lipstick red is EXTREMELY hard to come by in Chanel world so I will save you the searching and present her here:
